As one of Canada's pioneering programs, UNB's Media Arts & Cultures (MAAC) has provided students with a unique blend of theoretical media studies and practical creative training since 1996. MAAC majors don't just study media - they create it. The program challenges students to analyze and critically engage with media while mastering current production techniques and tools.
This interdisciplinary program merges liberal arts' analytical rigor with fine arts' creative practice. While completing traditional academic work like research papers and presentations, students also produce diverse media projects including videos, digital remixes, animations, blogs, and video games.
Learning by doing
Experiential education forms the core of Media Arts & Cultures. Students explore film history and theory alongside practical filmmaking courses. The curriculum offers complementary pairings like game philosophy courses examining play in Western thought with modern video game design classes.
