The University of Manitoba's Department of Religion and the University of Winnipeg's Department of Religious Studies collaborate to provide a combined Master of Arts in Religion degree. This program allows students to investigate biblical studies, Christian history, global faith traditions, gender and religion, interpretive methods, and various religion-culture intersections.
Religious studies seeks to comprehend spiritual concepts and customs as reflections of their originating societies and cultures. The curriculum enables examination of belief systems, philosophical frameworks, mythological narratives, ceremonial practices, and symbolic representations that have influenced world civilizations throughout history and continue to shape contemporary societies. Through this academic journey, our program cultivates critical thinking about religion's role in shaping personal identities, community structures, and global perspectives while fostering awareness of diverse traditions, values, and cultural expressions worldwide and within local contexts. Additionally, it creates space for students to examine their personal spiritual backgrounds while considering modern challenges through multiple interpretive lenses.
This joint graduate program between the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg offers both thesis and coursework completion options for the Master of Arts in Religion degree.
