Physical Geography explores Earth's natural systems, covering the atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere (ice regions), hydrosphere (water systems), and lithosphere (land formations). Researchers in this field investigate interactions between these systems, their evolution through time, and the consequences of these transformations. Atmospheric Science
Fundamentally, this discipline involves analyzing Earth's atmospheric layers (and those of other planets). The atmospheric science curriculum in the Department of Environment and Geography primarily concentrates on tropospheric phenomena (the atmospheric layer nearest to Earth's surface where weather develops) and its exchanges with the planetary surface (including energy, moisture, carbon cycles, and other environmental processes).
Geomatics
Geomatics represents a growing discipline focused on gathering, processing, and interpreting spatial information. This field incorporates digital mapping techniques, spatial analysis methods, statistical modeling, satellite observation technologies, and computerized geographic data systems.
General physical geography
This branch of geography examines environmental systems through atmospheric studies, landform development, biological distribution patterns, and water cycle analysis. These investigations integrate principles from both pure and applied sciences to decipher natural environmental processes.
