Chemistry explores the fundamental building blocks of matter - atoms and molecules - and their interactions, transformations, and combinations. Our Chemistry curriculum provides comprehensive training in analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, equipping students to apply their understanding of material processes for developing novel substances or analyzing existing ones
As the scientific study of atomic and molecular properties that constitute all physical matter, chemistry plays a vital role across numerous domains - including food production, pharmaceutical and material manufacturing, energy generation, environmental solutions, and biological systems. Through our Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs, students gain practical experience in government, industry, and research lab settings. The Department facilitates instruction and investigation across chemistry's diverse spectrum, ranging from theoretical frameworks to intensive organic synthesis, from analyzing interstellar molecular spectra to mapping protein structures, and from studying high-temperature ionic conductors to tracking mercury accumulation in Arctic ecosystems.
