Our theater program combines focused training with diverse opportunities, blending creative expression with intellectual growth. Students gain immersive, practical experience across all areas of theatrical production - a defining feature of our program.
We teach both theoretical frameworks and hands-on techniques, equipping students for professional careers in acting and technical theater, with special emphasis on playwriting and direction.
The Theatre Program within the Department of English, Film, and Theatre balances specialized training with broad exploration, fostering artistic and academic development. The University of Manitoba's theater program is renowned for its comprehensive, experiential approach to stagecraft. Our unique partnership with the Black Hole Theatre Company gives students balanced training in both theatrical creation and analysis. Our curriculum covers theoretical perspectives alongside critical and applied methodologies. Students can explore acting, production, and dramatic analysis through both Film and Theatre course offerings.

Qualification Requirements
The following are minimum requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
Direct entry applicants are those who have not attended a post-secondary institution or have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at a recognized university or college.
Advanced entry applicants are those who have completed one year (24 credit hours) or more of studies in another faculty at the University of Manitoba or another recognized post-secondary institution.
