The Sociology Department's MA program is a two-year graduate initiative that fosters an engaging academic atmosphere where students can cultivate their "sociological perspective" through advanced coursework and thesis research. Annually, we carefully select a limited group of motivated, qualified candidates. With intentionally small class sizes, our students enjoy personalized guidance from dedicated faculty members. The program offers adaptable course selections and individualized support to tailor studies to each student's research goals. Working closely with their advisors, students typically complete three to six graduate courses (course details can be found in the University of Lethbridge's catalog). The Registrar's Office website provides up-to-date scheduling information for current course offerings.
While we generally require applicants to hold an undergraduate degree in Sociology, we also consider candidates from related fields who propose research projects with strong sociological foundations. Prospective students must secure a faculty supervisor before applying, ensuring both research compatibility and faculty availability for mentorship.
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree (i.e. an undergraduate degree) in a related discipline from a recognized degree-granting institution; Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level term courses OR calculated on the most recently completed master’s degree if the applicant is applying for another master’s degree.
