Political Science examines the structured analysis of governance, political systems, and civic behavior. It explores how societies establish their governing structures across all tiers and considers diverse perspectives on future governance models. As a political science scholar, you'll investigate how political disputes are structured and settled in practical scenarios. You'll examine electoral processes, policy formulation mechanisms, and the organization of decision-making frameworks. The curriculum covers how nations, including Canada, develop and execute legislation and public policies.
Additionally, you'll analyze how officials interpret their mutual responsibilities and how policy choices are influenced by varying conceptions of morality, practicality, and feasibility across different contexts. The Political Science Department provides four specialized concentrations, recommending students sample courses from each to obtain comprehensive disciplinary knowledge. These concentrations include: Canadian Government Studies, Cross-National Political Analysis, Global Affairs, and Philosophical Foundations of Politics.
