The MBS is a one-year graduate program focused on coursework, featuring a significant research component. Students conduct this research under the guidance of a Faculty Advisor. Created as an alternative to the MSc program, the MBS offers graduate-level education in a condensed timeframe and doesn't require a comprehensive written thesis. Many MBS applicants are either exploring their interest in thesis-based graduate studies or seeking to enhance their academic credentials for professional programs. Those who develop or confirm a passion for research may have the option to transition into the MSc program before their third term, allowing them to pursue a thesis-based master's degree.
Neuroscience research within the department encompasses diverse areas, including studying pattern formation in typical brain development, uncovering new synaptic plasticity mechanisms, analyzing gene expression and signaling pathways in aging and Alzheimer's Disease, investigating disease-related ion channel mutations, and examining how sex hormones influence brain function.
