The Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG) at the University of Guelph provides distinctive master's and PhD programs designed to advance knowledge of biological systems using physical science principles and methodologies. Differing from most Canadian biophysics graduate programs, BIG concentrates on fundamental scientific research rather than medical or clinical applications. Student research within BIG covers the full scope of life sciences, from biochemistry and molecular biology to microbiology and human biology. BIG delivers thorough academic and research preparation in Biophysics, highlighting interdisciplinary experimental and computational methods that apply physical and digital tools to biological challenges. The program fosters collaborative investigations among faculty with aligned research focuses, with many graduate students receiving joint supervision from multiple research teams.
Students must have master’s degree in a wide range of areas, including: Biophysics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Microbiology, Engineering, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Food Science, etc.
