The Department of Biomedical Sciences offers distinctive pathways for transforming foundational research into real-world solutions that improve both animal and human wellbeing. Our multidisciplinary approach covers biomechanics, cancer biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, pharmacology and toxicology, reproductive biotechnology, cardiovascular biology, and stem cell and regenerative medicine. The PhD curriculum involves passing a qualifying examination and developing then defending an original research dissertation, typically within twelve semesters.
Investigations in this field explore cellular and molecular processes in steroid production, typical and atypical embryonic growth, diverse elements of reproductive science (including hormonal systems) across domesticated, lab, and wildlife species, as well as advancing reproductive technologies like cloning, IVF, embryo manipulation, freezing reproductive cells and embryos, and controlling animal gender development.
