The Environmental Governance Major equips students with knowledge about environmental governance practices and prospects in Canada and globally. Drawing from geography and political science fundamentals, the program also incorporates perspectives from various social sciences and humanities. Participants will develop: a strong grasp of environmental change processes and governance systems; awareness of geographical, political, and economic influences on global environmental governance; experience with cutting-edge methods and real-world examples; and options to focus restricted electives on areas like Indigenous governance, environmental advocacy, or policy. Program graduates will be prepared for roles in government agencies, environmental NGOs, non-profit organizations, and corporate sectors.
By fulfilling core requirements and strategically choosing electives, students can simultaneously pursue a Geography or Political Science minor, or obtain the Indigenous Environmental Governance certificate. Minors from other disciplines may also enhance the Environmental Governance Major.
The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in his or her home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph.
