UFV's Milker Technician associate certificate is ideal for those looking to master quiet, efficient milking of high-yield dairy cows while adhering to strict sanitation protocols and proper milking methods. Discover how to maintain hygienic milking equipment and ensure a clean milking environment. The program also covers additional responsibilities like feeding, young animal care, barn maintenance, record-keeping, and operating machinery. Credits from this certificate can be applied toward UFV's Livestock Production certificate and Agriculture Technology diploma (Livestock Production) programs. Participation includes unpaid work at UFV's barn or partner farms during the program. Practicum schedules involve early morning (starting around 4 am) and late afternoon (starting around 4 pm) milking sessions. Practicum I can be completed during the academic term with proper scheduling, otherwise AGRI 192 and AGRI 292 may follow campus studies. Reliable transportation to farm sites and campus is required, along with the ability to fulfill assigned farm duties. Trainees will be evaluated by host farmers on punctuality, reliability, teachability, teamwork, and animal handling skills.
