UFV's Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate program provides a strong foundation for those seeking careers with young children. Tailored for recent high school graduates and working professionals alike, this four-semester program covers essential topics in communication, personal growth, child development, and early learning curricula. Students examine contemporary theories about physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development from infancy through age 18. The curriculum also teaches various observation methods for tracking children's progress in social skills, play behavior, language acquisition, motor skills, and cognitive growth. During the final two semesters, students complete both introductory and advanced 200-hour practicums, applying ECE principles in real-world settings while documenting their experiences and developing competencies in parent communication, self-assessment, and peer review. Graduates who obtain first aid certification become eligible to apply for British Columbia's basic early childhood educator license through the Provincial Licensing Board.
Students must have a B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.
