UFV provides a minor and extended minor in Media and Communication Studies within the Bachelor of Fine Arts program. Explore the intricate connections between media, communication, and society while delving into diverse subjects like communication history, advertising, music, journalism, digital design, and creative expression. During your initial two years, you'll explore communication theory and analyze media's influence on Canadian life. You'll also learn social research methods and study various fields, including public relations, advertising, and Canadian journalism. In your third and fourth years, you'll tackle challenges in online media design and distribution, while exploring aesthetic theories, identity, and subcultures in art, film, music, and photography. Upon completing the program, you'll possess the ability to critically assess modern artistic works and cultural portrayals, along with a thorough comprehension of media engagement—enhancing your creative toolkit with valuable new skills.

Qualification Requirements

Option 1: Secondary school (for students with secondary school graduation only)
B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.
A minimum grade of C+ in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (see Note).
Note: Students may also present English 12, English Literature 12, English 12 First Peoples, AP English, IB English A (standard level or higher level), or out-of-province equivalent.

Portfolio review.
Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for the Visual Arts diploma or Qualifying Studies.

Option 2: University entrance (for students who have post-secondary credit in BFA-related courses)
A minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all post-secondary credits completed and one of the following:
15 university-level credits in BFA-related disciplines (see Note) with a minimum GPA of 2.00 on these courses.
A UFV diploma in Visual Arts, Graphic and Digital Design, or Theatre.
A UFV Associate of Arts degree with an option in Theatre or Media and Communication Studies.
Option 3: (for students who have post-secondary credit, but not in BFA-related courses)
A minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all post-secondary credits completed.
Portfolio review.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) IBT score of 88 with no section below 20, or paper-based score of 570 with a TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic format score of at least 6.5., with no band score less than 6.0.
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) score of at least 85.
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) score of at least 70.
