The Bachelor of Arts program with a concentration in Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS), available as either a major or minor, offers an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach centered on conflict resolution with particular emphasis on indigenous and community perspectives. Beyond classroom discussions about conflict analysis and peace strategies, you'll gain practical abilities and direct experience in reconciliation efforts that advance fairness, justice, and fair resource distribution.
This program covers the theoretical foundations of peacebuilding while connecting them to actual situations, encouraging critical thinking throughout the analytical process and enhancing your ability to solve complex problems.
It cultivates engaged global citizenship through emphasizing constructive cross-cultural communication and mutual understanding.
Rooted in the principle of universal human equality, the program advocates that compassion, fairness, and reciprocal regard create the best environment for societal, intellectual, and individual growth.
It facilitates cultural exchange both within the Fraser Valley region and internationally. Foundational courses create opportunities for diverse community members to engage in direct conversations about conflict resolution and peace initiatives.
Through detailed global case studies, you'll broaden your perspective while learning from experienced international peace workers, with chances to acquire professional skills and participate in practical peacebuilding projects.
To enhance international career opportunities, consider complementing your degree with specialized training in areas like foreign languages, supply chain management, city planning, media relations, finance, healthcare, farming, or technology. Your PACS degree can also serve as a stepping stone to advanced studies in conflict resolution or related disciplines including legal studies, policy analysis, global development, or government service.
