The UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine provides an exceptional chance to learn from globally distinguished faculty and innovative research initiatives. Our department stands at the forefront of both fundamental and clinical research, earning national and international acclaim. Experimental Pathology encompasses diverse biomedical investigations related to human diseases. To comprehensively understand disease mechanisms, researchers must first grasp normal biological functions, which is why UBC's work spans multiple disciplines and methodologies. Research encompasses all biological scales—from molecular studies of proteins and lipoproteins to cellular and cancer biology, animal models exploring pulmonary/cardiovascular disorders and infectious processes, through to human population studies and AIDS research.
Our program welcomes students from various scientific and medical backgrounds, including biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, and microbiology/immunology.
Dedicated to pioneering, ethical research with real-world impact, we strive to translate academic discoveries into meaningful improvements for individuals, communities, and global society.
