Geologists examine the composition of Earth's materials, its surface characteristics, and the natural processes that shape them. Our department offers diverse specializations in geological sciences, spanning field investigations (such as mineral deposit analysis, volcanic studies, sediment research, tectonic movements, rock formation, and groundwater systems), experimental work (including hydraulic fracturing, rock stress testing, volcanic activity modeling, and carbon storage), and lab-based examinations (like microscopic rock analysis, mineral studies, and age dating techniques).

EOAS's Geological Science program maintains its position among Canada's elite earth science programs and ranks within the global top 20.
Our facilities boast cutting-edge equipment for isotopic and geochemical investigations (PCIGR), host the renowned Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU), and serve as the global hub for mineral exploration activities.
British Columbia's diverse landscapes provide an exceptional outdoor research environment that complements laboratory studies.
Strong partnerships with industry and government sectors support numerous graduate students through sponsored projects, often resulting in permanent career opportunities.
