The Community and Agency Counselling specialization equips M.Ed. students with skills to counsel individuals, couples, and family units. Coursework and practical training examine both the developmental requirements and effective approaches for supporting individuals and families. Students cultivate these competencies through both group-based and one-on-one counseling instruction.

Aligned with the University of British Columbia's research-driven mission, the Counselling Psychology Program generates, evaluates, and critically assesses psychological counseling knowledge - particularly regarding its effectiveness, boundaries, practical applications, and connections to other fields. By employing and refining innovative research methods, the program establishes qualitative and quantitative evidence to identify successful counseling strategies across educational, community, healthcare, and workplace environments.
