This Master of Arts (M.A.) program suits students seeking to meet the same qualifications as the M.Ed. to teach d/Deaf and hard of hearing students while pursuing a thesis-driven graduate degree. The M.A. enables students to investigate research topics concerning language, education, psychosocial aspects, and communication requirements for d/Deaf and hard of hearing learners through existing literature while advancing new insights in the field. This three-year graduate program combines online and on-campus learning.

Qualification Requirements
International applicants - if your transcript does not state that your degree has been conferred, we require a scanned copy of your degree certificate. If your transcript and degree certificate are not in English, we require both a scanned copy in the original language and a certified English translation. The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies establishes the minimum admission requirements common to all applicants, usually a minimum overall average in the B plus range (76% at UBC).
IELTS - A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component.
TOEFL IBT - 90 for the internet-based exam (with minimum component scores of 22 (reading, listening) and 21 (writing, speaking).
PTE - A minimum overall score of 65 on the academic (NOT general) test is required with minimums of 60 reading, 60 writing, 60 listening, and 60 speaking.
