The UBC Master's in Philosophy program enables outstanding students to pursue advanced philosophical studies, explore essential questions more deeply, and develop the expertise required for independent research.
At UBC, students can earn their Philosophy Master's degree through two distinct pathways: a thesis-focused option or a course-based approach.
The course-based program typically requires completing ten courses, with a minimum of six offered by the Philosophy Department. The thesis pathway generally involves six courses followed by thesis writing. Both options are designed for completion within a standard two-year timeframe.
Students enjoy significant freedom in selecting their philosophical specialization areas. Those interested in non-English philosophical works can study the relevant languages. Additionally, many participants gain teaching experience by serving as assistants in undergraduate philosophy courses.
