The Applied Mechanics team conducts foundational studies in solid mechanics, materials science, and structural engineering. Researchers in this group employ cutting-edge analytical, computational, and experimental methods to create practical solutions across various domains including advanced materials (nanomaterials, Magnesium alloys, wood composites), structural systems (marine and aerospace applications), coupled fluid-structure-acoustic interactions, and medical devices (biomedical implants, bio-inspired adhesives). Their work receives financial support from organizations such as NSERC, CIHR, CFI, as well as domestic and international industrial partners.

Qualification Requirements
Normally, applicants for a master's degree program must hold the academic equivalent of a four-year bachelor's degree from UBC including one of the following:
A minimum overall average in the B plus range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses.
Academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study.
IELTS - A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component.
TOEFL IBT - 93 for the internet-based exam (with minimum component scores of 22 (reading, listening) and 21 (writing, speaking).
