This full-time Program combines coursework with research, preparing students to become marine and freshwater scientists skilled in both fundamental and practical studies. Its goal is to promote thriving aquatic ecosystems and responsible resource management. Leveraging the Institute's diverse faculty knowledge, the Program meets the growing demand for specialists capable of overseeing fisheries and resource operations along Canada's coastal, marine, and inland waters. Doctoral students expand their cross-disciplinary knowledge and gain hands-on training in fisheries science, aquatic ecology, environmental physiology, resource economics, ocean governance, and climate studies. Through this approach, the initiative drives innovative research in aquatic environments while tackling critical environmental science, technology, and resource management challenges at national and international levels.
