The Interdisciplinary Oncology Program (IOP) is a graduate initiative tailored for students passionate about cancer research across various disciplines. This program provides comprehensive education and research opportunities spanning multiple oncology-related fields such as molecular biology, genetics, biophysics, bioinformatics, pharmaceutical sciences, radiology, immunology, pathology, sociobehavioral studies, epidemiology, and health economics. Its mission is to equip graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds with multidisciplinary training while fostering specialized expertise in cancer research. For over a decade, IOP has cultivated future leaders in oncology research.
By combining interdisciplinary approaches, IOP features two core courses that present oncology from a broad perspective, suitable for students with varied academic preparation. Elective courses allow focused study in research-specific areas while encouraging cross-disciplinary exploration. Through collaboration with the renowned BC Cancer Agency, students engage with clinicians and faculty to understand real-world cancer treatment applications. A distinctive rotation course offers hands-on learning by working in specialized labs and observing clinical practitioners.
Students who apply for entrance into the Interdisciplinary Oncology Program must have completed a BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MD or hold an equivalent degree from a recognized institution.
