The Department of Oncology provides graduate programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Candidates possessing an MSc or demonstrating exceptional undergraduate performance may qualify for direct entry into the PhD program. With over 123 primary faculty members and around 62 adjunct faculty from other departments, the department spans seven specialized divisions. Its facilities are housed at the Cross Cancer Institute (a University of Alberta-affiliated comprehensive cancer center), the Katz Group Centre for Pharmacy and Health Research, and the Medical Isotopes and Cyclotron Facility (MICF). The department boasts cutting-edge resources including advanced cell imaging, flow cytometry, genomic analysis platforms, computational drug modeling, and both small animal and human imaging technologies alongside radiation therapy equipment. Faculty members actively contribute to medical education across undergraduate and postgraduate programs while spearheading significant research projects, from clinical trials to fundamental investigations into cancer's molecular origins, diagnosis, and treatment approaches.
