The Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs offer theoretical, experimental, and observational approaches across major geophysics disciplines. Research focuses span multiple domains: glaciology (both observational and theoretical), climate change patterns, geodynamic processes affecting Earth's and other planets' crusts, mantles, and cores, geological fluid dynamics, volcanic activity, terrestrial and planetary surface evolution, planetary magnetism origins, seismic reflection inversion techniques for mineral prospecting and environmental research, computational electromagnetic modeling, seismological investigations of crustal and upper mantle structures, earthquake research targeting Western Canada's tectonic history, and Earth science applications of machine learning and data science methodologies.
Applicants are expected to have a master's degree in science or engineering, with a firm background of mathematics and physics up to fourth-year level. While some undergraduate instruction in geophysics or geology is an advantage, it is not a prerequisite for entry into geophysics graduate programs of the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences.
