The General Studies program offers a comprehensive and adaptable music education at the higher education level, featuring individualized instruction on your primary instrument. You'll enjoy significant flexibility in selecting elective courses, paving the way for diverse career paths or advanced graduate studies.
The Bachelor of Music program offers four distinct pathways: General Studies, Advanced Performance, Scholarship, or Composition. All streams incorporate four years of private instrumental or vocal instruction, ensemble participation (4 years), music theory (3 years), and non-music electives (4 years). Each pathway features unique course requirements and elective options across music and other disciplines. General Studies delivers a well-rounded musical foundation with specialized training on the student's principal instrument. This program is open to most undergraduate applicants at the School of Music, offering three specialized tracks:
General Studies (with focus areas in Piano, Organ, Voice, Opera, Guitar, Harpsichord, Orchestral Instruments, or Historical Musical Instruments),
General Studies - Elementary Education Track (preparing students for BC elementary teaching certification),
General Studies - Secondary Education Track (training future music educators for BC secondary schools).
