The Faculty of Music provides two undergraduate programs: the Bachelor of Music (Mus.Bac.) and the Bachelor of Music in Performance (Mus.Bac.Perf.). Performance majors start their specialized training immediately in their first year, while students in the general Bachelor of Music program (excluding Music Education in Classical & Jazz, Composition, and Comprehensive-Jazz) begin with a Common Year. This foundational year allows them to complete core requirements while exploring potential concentrations in History & Theory or Comprehensive studies. Those interested in Music Education (Classical) or Composition may choose to delay their specialization until Year 2 after completing the Common Year. All students must fulfill core music requirements, which include essential courses in history, theory, and performance, creating a shared academic foundation for all music students.
The Performance program develops skilled, innovative musicians with strong artistic potential. We emphasize cultivating versatile performers who honor musical traditions while exploring contemporary approaches. The curriculum focuses on individual instruction, masterclasses with faculty and visiting artists, ensemble participation, and diverse performance electives. Students gain experience through solo recitals, chamber music, and specialized courses covering performance techniques, pedagogy, music business, and more. This comprehensive training prepares graduates for advanced study and various music careers.
