The West Kootenay Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) caters to aspiring educators seeking to work in distinctive rural and small school environments. Students will complete coursework at UBC's WKTEP Learning Center in Nelson or in regional classrooms, with a curriculum rooted in location-aware education and strong connections to local school districts (including Nelson and surrounding communities).
This 11-month post-degree program trains educators for elementary, middle, or secondary school settings. Graduates who fulfill the BEd Elementary or Secondary program requirements (with one or two subject specializations) receive recommendation to the BC Teacher Regulation Branch for professional certification.
