The German studies curriculum fosters independent learning and cultivates critical thinking through learner-focused teaching methods. Students gain comprehensive language abilities across five key areas: listening comprehension, reading proficiency, verbal communication, written expression, and cultural understanding.
This program explores the language, literary works, and cultural traditions of German-speaking regions. Initial coursework emphasizes linguistic foundations, building practical communication skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing German. The curriculum incorporates genuine language materials from diverse fields, social settings, and historical periods.
Third-year literature and culture overviews, conducted in English, are available to all university students. The complete German program for Honours, Major, and Minor degrees features advanced coursework in literary studies (some English-taught), cultural analysis, specialized language training, and business German. The department additionally provides instruction in Swedish and Danish, along with Scandinavian and Baltic cultural and literary studies (taught in English).
Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
