The Asian Language and Culture program equips you with the linguistic skills and cultural knowledge needed to excel as a leader in 21st-century Canada-Asia relations. This program blends intensive language learning with specialized focus areas, including China, Chinese Literature, Japan, Korea, or South Asia.
Through Asian Language and Culture, you'll gain insights into the rich histories and diverse cultures of Asian societies. The curriculum covers literary and religious traditions, along with gender dynamics across Asian cultures. Language courses are available in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, and Indonesian.
In today's Asia-Pacific era, it's crucial for globally aware individuals to comprehend and skillfully navigate the intricate historical, cultural, and linguistic factors that influence cross-cultural collaboration. Graduates will emerge with an appreciation for diversity and a unique blend of Asia-focused language proficiency and intercultural skills. They'll be prepared to meaningfully contribute to Canada's growing connections with Asia through culturally sensitive and innovative approaches.
Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
English Language Admission Standard: Canadian Academic English Language assessment - Overall 70; Cambridge English Qualifications – 180; UBC Certificate in English – 600; International English Language Testing System (Academic) - 6.5, with no part less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Overall: 65, Reading: 60, Listening: 60, Writing: 60, Speaking: 60; Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test - Overall: 90, Reading: 22, Listening: 22, Writing: 21, Speaking: 21.
