Chemical Engineering combines principles from physical and chemical sciences with mathematics, process engineering, design, and economics. You'll discover how to develop, construct, and manage industrial manufacturing processes that produce essential goods and services—from energy, food, and fertilizers to pharmaceuticals, plastics, and paper.
The program aims to deliver an exceptional and unique chemical engineering education through a well-rounded, forward-thinking curriculum that addresses societal demands. By choosing from diverse elective topics, graduates gain the skills for rewarding careers in industry, government, and academia across British Columbia, Canada, and globally. The Chemical Engineering degree focuses on analyzing, designing, controlling, and optimizing processes in resource-driven sectors like oil & gas, pulp & paper, petrochemicals, polymers, inorganic chemicals, and fertilizers. It also highlights pollution prevention and minimizing environmental impact in industrial operations.
Sustainability is a core focus of the curriculum. Sustainable engineering concepts are woven into individual courses and specialized technical electives. Students also participate in sustainability initiatives guided by the Department's Sustainability Club.
