The Department of Linguistics stands out within the Faculty of Arts as the sole provider of a Master of Science degree. Prospective MSc students can opt for either a course-focused or thesis-focused program. Both pathways mandate completing two core courses: LING 601 - Phonology I and 602 - Seminar in Syntax, along with a selection of elective courses determined in collaboration with the student's advisor. While elective choices vary based on individual academic backgrounds and research interests, the Department particularly recommends LING 501 - Research Project Seminar for incoming MSc candidates. Students must seek guidance from their supervisor or the Associate Chair - Graduate when selecting courses. The program allows flexibility to transition between the thesis and course options during studies, though such changes require prior consultation with academic advisors.
