The University of Alberta's Master's Program in School Counselling caters to full-time educators working in Edmonton and nearby regions (within reasonable commuting distance) who are recommended by their school principals as promising candidates for professional growth in school counselling roles. This 26-month, part-time program requires 36 credit hours and aligns with teachers' work commitments, culminating in a final capstone project. Classes are held on alternating Saturdays from September through April, supplemented by an intensive 6-week summer session on campus when schools are closed. While coursework is university-based, practical training and supervision occur at participants' current schools or other local district institutions.

This program equips educators to deliver various school-based interventions, including: (a) fostering students' personal and social growth, (b) improving academic performance, (c) guiding career choices, (d) managing school crises, (e) connecting families, schools, and communities, and (f) recognizing at-risk students for specialized programming or referrals.
