Enhance your leadership skills for the evolving global markets in agrology, agribusiness, and food industries. Our MBAMAg (Master of Agriculture) dual degree program caters to those seeking advanced agricultural education with a management emphasis. Since 1988, the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences has partnered with the Alberta School of Business to address industry needs for skilled, visionary managers. Most MBAMAg students work primarily with the Department of Resource Economics & Environmental Sociology.

The agriculture and food industries increasingly require leaders who possess both management expertise and technical knowledge across multiple disciplines. This program allows you to specialize in areas like agronomy, agribusiness, food production, environmental conservation, or land-use planning.

During the first year, students focus on core business subjects including accounting, economics, finance, management science, marketing, strategic planning, and organizational behavior, with optional introductory agriculture courses. The second year deepens agricultural knowledge while offering elective choices from both the Alberta School of Business and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences.

Qualification Requirements

The Alberta MBA is an intensive program. Success requires a high scholastic aptitude, a superior command of English communication skills and strong time-management abilities. Admission to the Alberta MBA Program is highly selective. We seek motivated, bright and articulate individuals who have a strong standard of personal ethics. No formula is employed in admission decision-making. Rather, each candidate is evaluated individually to assess compatibility between the applicant and the program.

The language of instruction at the University of Alberta is English. Applicants who do not hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution in which the language of instruction is English are required to provide an official result from a test of English language proficiency (ELP). A list of ELP exempt institutions is available through the Faculty of Graduate Studies. If your institution is not listed on the exemption list, but you did complete your undergraduate degree with English as the medium of instruction, we can consider your application without a test of English language proficiency (you may still be asked to provide one).
Successful applicants will have demonstrated their English language proficiency by achieving the following minimum scores:

TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), or 100 (internet-based test)
IELTS (Academic): Overall band score of 7.0, with at least 6.0 on each band
