The Department provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students can specialize in various philosophical disciplines such as ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, feminist philosophy, logic, decision theory, philosophy of science (including biology and cognitive science), epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, ancient philosophy, modern philosophy (17th-20th century), and contemporary European and Anglo-American philosophy. Those interested should contact the Graduate Coordinator regarding potential research topics. The MA in Philosophy offers both course-based and thesis-based completion options. Applicants must choose one initially, but may switch programs with departmental approval. Typically, MA candidates possess an undergraduate degree in Philosophy or a related field. Students lacking sufficient philosophical background may need to complete a qualifying year or additional coursework.
