The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology operates as a premier academic hub for Medical Laboratory Sciences, Pathology, Environmental Health Sciences, and Toxicology. It achieves distinction in education, research, and clinical services through its collaboration with Alberta Precision Laboratories. Comprising seven specialized divisions and multiple training programs, the Department provides thesis-driven master's and doctoral programs within a diverse research setting that fosters innovation and scholarly achievement. This frequently manifests through joint thesis projects involving our pioneering basic and clinical research faculty, enabling groundbreaking studies unmatched by other institutions.
For students entering the PhD program after a BSc degree, a minimum of ?12 graded graduate level courses is required. For students entering the PhD program after a MSc degree, a minimum of ?6 of graded graduate level courses is required. Students must maintain a cumulative program GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
