The Department of Biological Sciences provides graduate programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The facilities also support cell culture work across diverse organisms, from microbes to plants and animals. Additional features comprise aquatic animal housing systems, climate-controlled environments with extensive greenhouse capacity, and off-site locations like the Devonian Botanic Garden, field research stations near Edmonton, and the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre. Researchers have access to comprehensive biological collections spanning fungi, plant species, and animal specimens - including significant holdings of fish, fossils, insects, and parasitic organisms.
