Our program provides training in multiple widely-spoken languages that students can choose as either a primary or secondary focus within their Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. For every language specialization, we focus not just on developing fundamental communication abilities but also on cultivating a deep awareness of the language's cultural heritage and historical context. Teaching represents a profound vocation, and we're committed to shaping you into that inspirational classroom educator who leaves a lasting impact. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education curriculum, we equip you to share your enthusiasm for knowledge and exploration across various disciplines with middle and high school learners. You'll select two concentration areas - a primary and secondary field - enabling you to follow your interests and tailor your academic journey.

The Secondary Education curriculum incorporates two practical teaching components: a five-week Initial Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Normally, you'll instruct in your primary subject area during both teaching terms. While typically structured as a four-year course, this degree also accommodates those pursuing it after completing another undergraduate program. Graduates become eligible for Alberta teaching certification upon successfully finishing the program.
