This program is tailored for individuals who have already earned an undergraduate degree. The duration of the after-degree option depends on the transferability of your prior university credits. You can complete this program either at the University of Alberta or through our Collaborative Off-Campus Program at partner institutions.

Our Secondary Education program in the Faculty of Education equips you to share your enthusiasm for knowledge across various subjects with students in grades 7 through 12. You'll select two focus areas—a primary specialization and a secondary one—enabling you to follow your interests and personalize your educational journey.The program features two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) followed by a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT), where you'll typically instruct in your primary specialization area.While typically structured as a four-year course, this program also offers an after-degree pathway. Graduates will qualify for Alberta teacher certification upon successful completion.

Qualification Requirements

A three- or four-year degree from an accredited postsecondary institution
An Admission GPA (AGPA) of at least 2.0, or equivalent, based on the most recent graded and transferable ‚òÖ24. The length of the program will depend on the courses that a student presents at the time of admission. The Secondary After Degree program length will depend on the courses presented at the time of admission.
Mathematics 30-1 and Mathematics 30-2 are not necessary for admission to the Faculty of Education After Degree although Mathematics 30-1 may be a prerequisites for some required courses.
Submission of the Casper test is required to be evaluated for Admission to the program.
