The East Asian Studies program offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary foundation covering China, Korea, and Japan—including their languages, histories, cultures, and social structures.

Every major achieves fluency in at least one Asian language—a skill students often find more attainable than expected, thanks to our distinguished Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese programs led by seasoned instructors with years of experience teaching these languages to Canadian learners.

Beyond language mastery, our majors develop cultural competence through in-depth study of Asian histories, traditions, and modern political-economic landscapes. With faculty specializing in diverse Asian fields, graduates emerge fully equipped for rewarding careers focused on Asia. Our alumni pursue diverse paths in business, public service, education, and creative fields—some establishing themselves in Asia, while others contribute to Asia-Canada relations from within the country.
