Chemistry serves as a fundamental component in the academic training of science students. Those who complete our Chemistry program discover diverse career paths, often progressing to leadership roles in technology-driven sectors. As a core discipline, chemistry underpins professions in research, industrial settings, healthcare fields, and environmental sciences. Our Honours program and graduate school preparatory track, both recognized by the Canadian Society for Chemistry, prepare students for advanced research degrees. Students aiming for industrial careers should complement their studies with Business coursework. For healthcare professions, the Chemistry major with Life Sciences Emphasis offers the necessary foundational knowledge. Throughout our Chemistry curriculum, students gain comprehensive theoretical and practical training. After mastering fundamental concepts and lab techniques, students explore analytical, organic, physical, and inorganic chemistry alongside biochemistry. Senior students can undertake independent research projects addressing real-world chemical challenges in testing and development. Housed in the modern Neufeld Science Centre, our Chemistry Department boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment. Upper-level students enhance their teaching and mentorship abilities by serving as supervised teaching assistants in introductory lab courses.
