A geography and environmental studies program equips students with skills to address pressing global challenges through knowledge acquisition, analytical thinking, and practical applications.
As part of the Geography and Environment Department (GENV), you'll explore critical planetary concerns like climate change, biodiversity loss, ecosystem disruption, urban expansion, socioeconomic disparities, and sustainable growth.
Our interdisciplinary GENV curriculum bridges the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FHSS) and the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FNAS), offering comprehensive insights into cross-disciplinary challenges that prepare graduates for diverse career paths. The university's unique location near diverse ecosystems - including freshwater, coastal, mountainous, and island environments, alongside urban and rural landscapes - provides exceptional fieldwork opportunities in environmental conservation and community initiatives. Our state-of-the-art Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facility delivers cutting-edge technical training. You'll study under distinguished faculty specializing in areas like ecosystem rehabilitation, eco-friendly farming, marine sciences, spatial ecology, urban planning, natural resource governance, and geospatial technologies. GENV faculty members actively contribute to local and international scholarship while implementing practical solutions for environmental stewardship and human welfare.
