This pioneering program – the first of its kind in North America – combines Indigenous wisdom with Western scientific approaches, taught by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous professors, elders, visiting experts, and scholars. Trent University's innovative Indigenous Environmental Studies/Science (IESS) program, delivered in partnership with the School of the Environment, represents a North American first. The curriculum explores the intersection of Indigenous and Western knowledge systems, offering two academic tracks. Opt for the Bachelor of Arts (Studies) to examine environmental relationships through cultural, social, and human lenses from Indigenous viewpoints. Alternatively, select the Bachelor of Science (Sciences) path to develop analytical skills for studying the natural world through dual Indigenous and Western frameworks. Under the mentorship of distinguished faculty and community knowledge keepers, you'll cultivate creative problem-solving skills to tackle global challenges like climate change, sustainability, public health, and food security affecting Indigenous communities and populations worldwide.
Student must complete High School diploma (or equivalent) qualification.
