The Bachelor of Indigenous Environmental Science and Practice (BIESP) is a multidisciplinary science program cultivating future leaders in environmental science, land management, and policy development through Indigenous knowledge systems. This degree highlights the ethical integration of Indigenous and Western scientific approaches to solve pressing environmental concerns. It promotes sustainable environmental stewardship by applying Indigenous wisdom, traditions, and land ethics rooted in Indigenous worldviews. By honoring Indigenous knowledge as equally valid, the program presents a transformative perspective on environmental science, anchored in Indigenous methodologies and values while driving practical solutions. Alongside scientific coursework, students explore historical and modern Indigenous-settler relations in Canada, including the legal, political, and economic dimensions of environmental work.
The BIESP co-op option spans five years with four work terms, enabling students to gain professional experience with diverse employers such as First Nations communities, environmental firms, and government agencies. The co-op program enhances career readiness by developing job-seeking skills, workplace competencies, professional networks, and valuable resume credentials.
