Criminology explores criminal behavior, its impacts, offenders, and their motivations. Criminal Justice analyzes Canada's justice framework, covering corrections, victim support, policing, legal processes, youth intervention, and court systems. At STU, these subjects are taught through a liberal arts lens, fostering critical analysis of systemic issues and inspiring innovative solutions. The program covers foundational theories, emerging trends, and practical applications. Interactive small classes prioritize dialogue and debate. All instruction comes directly from faculty specialists—never teaching assistants—with diverse expertise spanning criminology, law, psychology, bioethics, and sociology.
Academic and professional development opportunities include both credit-bearing and extracurricular options.
Faculty research strengths include judicial errors, capital punishment, violence against Indigenous women, domestic abuse, incarcerated families, substance policies, and crime representation in media.

International Applicants - In addition to a high school transcript, international applicants whose primary language is not English must also arrange to have an official copy of their English proficiency scores sent directly to the Admissions Office. 
Adult Learners - Submit a 1–2-page typed letter describing your educational background, work experience, and academic plans. Mature candidates must also submit academic transcripts - e.g. high school, GED if applicable.
