The Catholic Studies Program offers a challenging academic journey that crosses disciplines to examine Catholicism. Our curriculum delves into the Catholic intellectual heritage—a two-millennia conversation between faith and culture. We study these texts to comprehend Catholicism's influence on humanity's quest for purpose, affirming that thoughtful inquiry is essential to faith. The program warmly invites students of all faiths or none, committed to scholarly examination of Catholicism without dogma. Courses particularly highlight how Catholic thought can illuminate matters of social justice, economic fairness, and peace.
This program grants you the liberty to investigate timeless human inquiries and urgent modern issues while remaining receptive to faith's possible insights. You'll also examine the Catholic Church as both a spiritual institution and a cultural-political force. Additionally, you'll have access to enriching activities beyond the classroom—including service projects, academic events, and community initiatives hosted by the St. John XXIII Centre for Catholic Studies.
