As an Applied Forensic Psychology student, you'll explore how psychological research and practice intersects with criminal justice systems. This program combines clinical psychology's professional applications (mental health evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning) with forensic psychology's experimental approaches.

Your learning will extend beyond textbooks through hands-on classroom training (developing counseling techniques, interview skills, ethical practice), visits to justice system locations (courtrooms, prisons), and community-based practicum experiences.

The curriculum investigates psychological aspects of legal processes, covering: witness reliability, juror psychology, lie detection, criminal statutes, law enforcement stress, violence risk evaluation, criminal patterns, and offender classifications (including sex offenders, psychopaths, and homicide perpetrators).

StFX offers Canada's sole undergraduate Applied Forensic Psychology program, ideal for those pursuing careers in justice-related fields like clinical psychology, social work, law enforcement, legal practice, criminal analysis, victim services, or legal journalism. Since most professions require postgraduate qualifications, the AFP curriculum prepares students for successful admission to advanced degree programs aligned with their career aspirations.
