Our two-year Bachelor of Education program blends teaching, research, and service in a dynamic learning setting. You'll be taught by professors who are distinguished educators themselves. In their second year, B.Ed. candidates gain valuable international teaching experience through overseas placements. Past students have completed practicums in diverse locations such as Norway, Australia, Kenya, Iceland, and Scotland.
The StFX Faculty of Education is committed to shaping future educators by merging academic theory with practical experience, ensuring graduates are classroom-ready. Our comprehensive program features both core requirements and specialized electives to fully prepare students for their teaching careers.
The BEd is a two-year postgraduate program requiring an undergraduate degree for admission. Students can choose between two specialization tracks:
Elementary (primary to grade 6) - Candidates in elementary education train to teach multiple subjects, reflecting Nova Scotia's public elementary school curriculum requirements.
Secondary (grades 7 to 12) - Secondary education students specialize in teaching two subjects commonly offered in Nova Scotia's public high schools (including English, French, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education/Health Education, Gaelic, Spanish, Business, Family Studies, Art, Music, and Drama).
Both streams offer additional specialization options in Physical Education and French.
