The Women's and Gender Studies program at StFX offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate education that creates both academic and community frameworks for examining gender issues. This program teaches students to analyze gender as a key social category while encouraging personal reflection on gender's role in their own experiences. The curriculum investigates how gender intersects with other identity factors like race, class, ability, and sexuality in both personal and societal contexts. Additionally, the program highlights the academic and real-world impact of Women's and Gender Studies scholarship.
Students can pursue several degree options: a BA Honours in Women's and Gender Studies with an arts subsidiary, a BA Major, a Joint Major combining Women's Studies with another arts discipline, a Subsidiary, or a Minor. As outlined in chapter 4, Arts, Business, and Science students can complete a paired program in Women's and Gender Studies. Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the program Co-ordinator early in their academic planning.
