Philosophy studies expose learners to key intellectual traditions throughout history while fostering critical analysis of personal beliefs. This discipline forms a core component of a well-rounded liberal arts curriculum.
StFX provides comprehensive major and honors tracks for dedicated philosophy scholars, with graduates successfully entering top-tier graduate programs worldwide. The department also welcomes students from other fields to enrich their studies with philosophical perspectives. The curriculum covers all major philosophical domains through systematic courses, with particular emphasis on historical developments.
Typically requires at least 12 credits in Philosophy History.
(i) This includes minimum 6 credits from ancient/medieval periods and 6 from modern/contemporary eras.
(b) Generally demands 18 upper-level (300-400) credits.
(c) Includes 6 credits from the department's designated 400-level Senior Seminar.
(d) Completion of a Senior Research Paper/Report.

Minimum grade requirement for any subject is 3.
Students can submit predicted or anticipated results for early fall admission and scholarship purposes.
For high school students the minimum admission requirements include an overall average of 70 percent in Grade 12 with no grade below 65 percent in each of the required subjects Admissions to limited enrolment programs is competitive meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.
Please note students who are currently in grade 12 applying for early admissionmust have the program requirements in grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer Otherwise offers will be made after receipt of final first term grade 12 transcript.
